You don’t find inspiration, inspiration finds you! At least it did me, when I was checking out my Instagram and Facebook feeds one Monday morning. A friend of mine was tagged in a few photos, with him and a few others, having a weekend adventure while exploring a few old abandoned houses in their local area. As soon as I saw just a few of the photos, I was hooked. I had to know where this place was and I had to get there as soon as possible to photograph it. The images in my head were flashing around like a rolodex. I closed my imagination-eyes and put my mind-finger down. Yep, that’s the shot! I must get that one.
I sent a direct message to my friend and asked, “OMG dude, where is this place?!?!” In quick time, he responded with the deets. That upcoming weekend, my wife and I drove out to meet him and his friend, who was the subject for our session. The weather was horrible; heavy rain was forecast and it would stick around for a while. But, we didn’t let that stop us! I was on a mission to get the image that I saw in my mind!
Once we arrived, we explored the old house. Items from the past, were left by the previous occupants. There were trinkets on the shelves and a painting on the wall. Many other objects were littered about. We soon realized that this place was once full of beauty and charm. We could see it through the grime. This place, full of memories, was wonderful and although it was just a shadow of its former self, we felt privileged to leave a few more memories.
