The QUEST Begins.
Without much up-front back story, I’ll get right to the juicy part… 3 months ago I barely knew anything about photography.
Oh yes my friends, I don’t know how to convey in words how little I really knew… One single ant sitting on a 3 tiered cake. Yeah, maybe that conveys it well. See, I was the ant and the cake was my Photography knowle… oh, you get the point.
In this state of ignorant bliss, I was asked/volunteered to photograph a wedding. No biggie. I knew how to work my camera (or so I thought). I knew about lighting (or so I thought). Well, at least I knew how to pose, direct and frame people… (yeah, not so much). Once I began to realize that I was in fact lacking in my abilities, I knew I had only one thing on my side…one thing most everyone takes for granted. One thing I could use to my advantage was… TIME.
I didn’t have much of it, but I knew I had enough figure out a handful of basics and some strategy. First, I started looking into what my gear was capable of. I read reviews from multiple sites about my specific camera and my lenses. I learned quickly that although I had a good camera, it was a far cry from being the one I truly needed. Turns out that the same goes for my 2 “kit” lenses. “Kit” was a new term to me as well; my heart began to sink. Seriously, after reading and reviewing so much information about my camera body and lenses, I started to feel like I had been asked to be the starting pitcher for a Major League Baseball team, but all I had was a plastic kids baseball glove and a wiffel ball. Gotta start somewhere though, am I right?
I invite you to follow my blog and my journey from basic beginnings to what will hopefully spawn into a fantastic doorway of opportunity, (or at least the equivalent of a small human eating that delicious photography cake).
I plan on writing/blogging about what I’ve learned thus far and how I’ve used that knowledge. What I am thinking and planning and just my over all thoughts about this adventure.
We’re all going to triumph together or you’re all going to see me with the proverbial egg on my face.
I am a creative at heart.
I am self aware.
I am a dreamer and this is the beginning of my Photography Quest!
